Enrollments in Large and Small Districts and Schools (3 Charts)


Most of the region's students are in districts of moderate size (Chart 1 of 3).

  • Los Angeles Unified (746,852) and Long Beach Unified (97,212) enroll more than a quarter of the region's students
  • Outside those two large districts, most of the region's students are in moderately large districts.

Most elementary students are enrolled in medium-sized schools (Chart 2 of 3).

  • Most elementary students are enrolled in schools with between 500 and 1000 students.
  • Los Angeles Unified School District is the exception: elementary students there are enrolled in somewhat larger schools.

Few secondary students are enrolled in small schools (Chart 3 of 3).
