- The district average teacher salary across the region is almost
$53,000.
- The district average minimum teacher salary across the region is
about $34,000.
- The district average maximum teacher salary across the region is
about $70,000.
There is moderate variation in average
teacher salary across districts (Chart 2 of 3).

- Variation in average salary is more apparent at the district
level, though most districts pay teachers an average of between
$50,000 and $55,000.
- There are extreme cases, as in Desert Center Unified in
Riverside County (where the average teacher is paid $36,383) and
Trona Joint Unified in San Bernardino (where the average teacher is
paid $70,730).
There are substantial salary
differences among different jobs (Chart 3 of 3).

- Pay for each kind of position is fairly consistent across the
region.
- While the average teacher is paid about $52,000, the average
elementary principal (at $87,000) and high school principal (at
$98,500) are paid substantially more.
- Superintendents in the Los Angeles region average about
$124,000, although Superintendent Roy Romer of the Los Angeles
Unified School District is paid $250,000.
