Most teachers are women (Chart 1 of 3).

- More than two-thirds of teachers are women throughout the
region.
- A slightly higher proportion of teachers are men in Los Angeles
Unified School District.
- We have looked at time-series data and found that the ratios
have not changed significantly in recent years.
While demographics vary across the
region, most teachers are Anglos (Chart 2 of 3).

- More than two-thirds of the region's teachers are Anglos.
- Region-wide, about 15 percent of teachers are Latinos, about 7
percent are Black, and About 6 percent are Asian/Pacific Islander.
- The race and/or ethnicity of teachers vary widely across the
region, with greater proportions of minority teachers in Los Angeles
County and Los Angeles Unified School District.
- More than 83 percent of teachers outside of Los Angeles County
are Anglos.
Patterns of teacher race and ethnicity
differs markedly from patterns in the general population and enrolled
students (Chart 3 of 3).

- Regionwide, teachers are far less likely to be Latinos than both
the general population and the student population.
- Regionwide, teachers are less likely to be African American or
