Districts and Poverty
(Chart 2)

In the Five County Region, districts have varying proportions of poor students.
(Chart 1 of 2)

Data Source: http://data1.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/

  • In the Five County Region, districts have varying proportions of students who are poor.
  • Nevertheless, in 5CR, approximately 1/4 districts have 60-80% of students who are poor.
  • In Los Angeles County, over 1/3 districts have 60-80% of students who are poor.
  • Outside Los Angeles County, only 1/5 districts have 60-80% of students who are poor.
  • Thus, though poor students are evenly distributed across districts throughout the 5CR overall, poor students are more concentrated in districts in LACO than OLACO.

In Los Angeles County, most students attend districts with high poverty.

Data Source: http://data1.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/

  • In the Five County Region, over 2/5 students attend districts with 60-80% of students who are poor.
  • In Los Angeles County, almost 2/3 students attend districts with 60-80% of poor students.
  • Thus, poor students in LACO can only share resources with other poor students; poverty is concentrated.
  • Outside Los Angeles, only 1/5 of students attend districts with 60-80% of poor students.
  • Thus, poor students in OLACO are able to share resources with non-poor students; poverty is dispersed.
