- In the Five County Region, the number of schools has grown
steadily over the past ten years.
- Most growth is due to increases Outside Los Angeles County and Los
Angeles County.
- Recent school construction in the Los Angeles Unified School District has
not yet led to more schools opening.
Student enrollment has
increased over 25% in the last decade.

- In the Five County Region, overall enrollment has increased more
than 25% since 1991.
- Outside Los Angeles County, enrollment has increased more than 35%
over the same period.
- In Los Angeles County, enrollment has increased more than 20%
over the same period.
- In Los Angeles Unified School District, enrollment has grown
more than 15% over the same period, but has leveled off.
The number of schools
has increased less than 20% in the last decade.

lagged behind enrollment growth.
- In the 5CR, overall enrollment increased over 25%; the number of
schools increased less than 20%.
- Note that the new schools are likely to be larger than those
built in the 1950s and 1960s.
- We have not yet been able to compare actual enrollment with intended school capacity.
